Last week I went to my local library and had a little look around for books I hadn’t seen yet. I stumbled up Simon and the Better Bone by Corey R. Tabor. Let’s dive in!
This book follows Simon, a cute dog who finds a lovely bone, only to see a better on in his reflection in the pond. Adorable! What immediately caught my eye is the format of the book. Opening on the short side of the book, each double page forms an interactive whole. The hinge of the book serves as the limit between Simon on dry land and Simon’s reflection in the pond. I really like when illustrators use this natural frontier as part of their stories, and this is a great example of this (I shared another book that does this wonderfully here).
The format of the book is very clever and complements the story perfectly. I enjoyed the adorable and so expressive Simon! The textures added with colouring pencils provide a lot of interest and make everything more lively. Finally, I loved the limited and fun colour palette that fits the tone of the story so well.
This is a little jewel of a book, full of humour. I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. Happy reading!

La semaine dernière, je suis allé à la bibliothèque municipale et j'ai cherché des livres que je n'avais pas encore vus. Je suis tombé sur Max et son os de Corey R. Tabor. Jetons-y un œil !
Ce livre raconte l'histoire de Max, un adorable chien qui trouve un joli os, mais qui en voit un encore plus beau dans son reflet dans l'étang. Adorable ! Ce qui a immédiatement attiré mon attention, c'est le format du livre. S'ouvrant sur le côté court du livre, chaque double page forme un tout interactif. La charnière du livre sert de limite entre Max sur la terre ferme et le reflet de Max dans l'étang. J'aime beaucoup quand les illustrateurs utilisent cette frontière naturelle dans leurs histoires, et c'est un excellent exemple (j'ai partagé ici un autre livre qui le fait à merveille).
Le format du livre est très astucieux et complète parfaitement l'histoire. J'ai beaucoup aimé Max, adorable et si expressif ! Les textures ajoutées avec des crayons de couleur apportent beaucoup d'intérêt et rendent le tout plus vivant. Enfin, j'ai adoré la palette de couleurs limitée et amusante qui correspond si bien au ton de l'histoire.
C'est un petit bijou de livre, plein d'humour. Je suis sûre que vous l'apprécierez autant que moi. Bonne lecture !
